I take a hand full of supplement three times daily:
Alpa Lopic Acid, B12, C-time release, Co-Q-10, D3, Lutein, Super B Complex, Multivitamins and minerals. If it wasn’t for Diabetes, I would be considered in good shape for being 78 years old. My last A1C was 6.1 and always in satisfactory range.
In addition, about 3 times a week, I take:
B1
B2
B6
B9
In the winter, I take Quercetin with Bromelain for two weeks or so. I eat seafood/fish three times I week so I dont take zinc often. When I do add zinc then I also add copper to balance.
I try to tailor my supplements based on what I dont eat/or deficiency. I prefer to get nutrients from whole, organic foods.
So far, just 20 mg of meatonin before bed. But I’m going to a new doctor next week for a physical. (1st doctor visit since Covid started) and i suspect she’ll recommend something. Starting Fosamax this week….ugh.
In addition to a multivitamin, calcium citrate and vitamin D, I also take vitamin C, vitamin B6 (recommended by my podiatrist), lutein (history of macular degeneration in family), CoQ10, and Biotin (to help with brittle nails).
I just started taking glucosamine-chondroitin after my sports medicine doctor told me “It won’t hurt you and might help.” I just stopped taking vitamin B after a blood test showed my vitamin B levels were way above normal.
Red yeast rice which lowered my cholesterol from 225 down to 104 in 4 months. I take a vitamin E to soften stool (I found) when I am occasionally irregular.
A couple supplements I take that are not on the list are sublingual B12 and Alpha Lipoic Acid. Both were recommended by doctors for my mild neuropathy in my feet. Turns out I’m in the 5% of well controlled Type 1s who still get neuropathy!
Melatonin, vitamin d, iron, methyl versions of B9 and B12, and fish oil.
Sometimes your body tells you with craving food or weird things when you lack what you need.
I have been taking omega 3, vitamin D and chewable vitamin C. Have stoped all this summer as I realized that I was getting false high glucose readings most likely due to the chewable 1000 mg Vit C daily intake. Now my readings are much more controlled and in range and will discuss vitamins in general with my endocrinologist when I see him next month. If he suggests they are not necessary, as I have a healthy diet and try to eat foods rich in healthy nutrients, I will not resume taking any vitamins.
I also take fish oil, 81 mg baby aspirin, CBD oil, and have recently started taking a cranberry capsule because I read in the Lancet that it was very beneficial. We diabetics can’t drink cranberry juice because they always sweeten cranberry juice.
I am good about taking Vit D and Biotin (because, hair growth!)…but there are others that sit in the drawer, ignored and forgotten! I should be taking my multi and turmeric more consistently.
