  I was seven when I was diagnosed. I did not see an endocrinologist until I was in my 40s.

  I didn't ask but some kind stranger saw me in the Atlanta airport taking many glucose tablets and only getting worse when she asked if she could assist me. I mutter, "Coke," and she ran to the nearest place, got a coke at no charge to bring back to me. As I was getting better she told me her husband was diabetic so she was somewhat familiar with what had happened. She offered to miss her flight to stay with me. I never even got her name!

  During the worst of the pandemic she offered it. I would rather have a virtual visit than to drive there, wait and then be told my normal for the past 66 years - "things are fine. Continue as you are." I knew that before going!

  I have Omnipod 5 and Dexcom G6. As others have mentioned the environmental waste for both is too much. I love the pump for when I sleep - no more worries about lows. But I would like to be able to set my own basal rate schedule since Omnipod doesn't give enough in the morning hours to take care of feet on the floor or the dawn phenomenon so I have to give a bolus every two hours upon getting up. Three is the most accurate answer for me.

  I was told by a supervisor, after two co-workers informed him, that I was checking my glucose in public - back in the day we had to use glucose meters - to go to a private area in the future to do this. At the time the co-workers saw me do this I had my hand under the table but they heard the click of pen that stuck my finger. I quit this job after three months! I knew what they told me was not legal but I just didn't feel like fighting the fight. "Not that you can cure stupid" certainly applied there!

  I have participated in the Joslin Medalist Program & Study for many years. You don't have to live close for this research since they provide hotels and flights to Boston. A person has to have had diabetes for at least 50 years to qualify for this research. When we die they take certain body organs for further research.
