What would make you more likely to participate in diabetes-related research? (Choose all that apply)
I’m going to be 80, and a “healthy” diabetic, yet my age eliminates me from most research. Aren’t they curious how I lived this long?

The last clinical trial I participated in was a double failure, so it was all for not. So professionalisem, and error free for me.

Many trials don’t take older people. I’m 71 and get eliminated.

I do not qualify for most surveys and when I do, they want private information I do not want to give them, because I do not know how secure their computers ate.

Only a few. Mainly blood tests and surveys. The others often have restrictions that don’t allow me to participate.

Have you ever participated in diabetes-related research?
I participated in the Look Ahead program by Brown University and Miriam Hospital. It was about diabetes, heart disease and weight control. I was in the control group and the first year I gained weight and found out I had heart disease. The stress test at the beginning of the trial showed an abnormality, so I already had a cardiologist when I needed my first of 16 stents.

I participated in Tandem's trial for ControlIQ and several Dexco. Adhesive trials. Long ago I participated in a study for non-invasive blood glucose testing using a technique called Ramen Spectrum Analysis using different frequenciesof light, that trial could not raise funds to continue.

Various studies at the Joslin Clinic, the first one back in 2010-2011 for CGMs to be covered by medical insurance companies. I also have done a pizza study to determine how to gauge the longer response by the body to eating pizzas with all its fats.

This year went down to 3x per year because of fewer issues. Used to be 4x per year.

Every three months, four times in 2022, as required by Medicare. I’d prefer to go two times per year.

I also have Medicare as primary but I only go once every six months. I would rather go once a year but the prescriptions for Dexcom and Omnipod won’t be filled if I don’t see her every six months. I do not use Medicare for prescriptions but federal BCBS. BTW, the doctor’s staff argued with me that I had to go every three months according to Medicare rules but now they know that isn’t true.

I answered “other”. With a move in the middle of the year, and the retirement of my long-time endocrinologist, I have seen an endo in my previous hometown, and a nurse practitioner specializing in endocrinology in my new home area. Things still seem in flux.

I see my endo at least every 6 months for my Dexcom due to Medicare requirements. He is a full professor and does a lot of research so I learn a lot and can participate in research opportunities. I see my pcp every 3 months for my pump supplies and insulin RXs due to Medicare again. I can see him for other problems as he is much closer to my home. It’s worth it as I don’t have to pay for my insulin, pump supplies or Dexcom supplies.

I answered 3 x, but if I included the online appointment the answer would be quarterly. I saw my endo 3 x and CDE 2 x, including an office appointment to answer my low potassium diet questions.

2- reluctantly. Only see my endo 1x a year normally. But DME supplier/insurance was requiring doc notes from the last 6 months so back I went. Thank goodness my provider squeezed me in quick to get me what I needed!

I started on new insurance last March, so I was only with my current endo for 3/4 of the year at most. Thus, only 3 appointments were possible last year.
