I donate to JDRF- personal donations as well as serving as a walk captain and asking other to contribute. I donate to a diabetes camp for children, participate in the camp’ fundraisers, and volunteer at the camp doing some repair work. I have taught a class for prediabetic individuals with an emphasis on strategies for lifestyle changes.
Because of the healthcare system in this country, I can not afford to give to ANY charity, even if I support it. This country is so bad that organizations like T1D spend the entire year sending people like me a daily beg for money. We are the only country on earth that requires citizens to pay for the advertising we see on TV for pharma. Yes we pay for their advertising and are the only country that allows pharma TV ads. So I will never be able to give anyone, anything because I can barely afford insulin, my insulin pump, and my CGM that keep my A1C at 6.2.
Because I have limited income, my contribution is in taking part in 50 year Medalist Studies at Joslin Clinic in Boston. Anytime they ask, I respond.
Magazine subscription.
I donate at the local food bank when we can spare some food we are on a limited income me being a T1D doesn’t help buying creams for nerve pain and arthritis gets expensive medicare doesn’t cover everything but they do cover all my diabetes supplies except for the cgm
We donate funds and items to causes we support. The T1D Exchange research studies and registry are also another way to support.
