Sarah is currently the Senior Manager of Marketing at T1D Exchange.
I tried to participate in a recent study of T1 diabetics and exercise but they didn’t like my EKG. Doctor doesn’t have a problem with it (I have occasional fast heartbeats but it’s never bothered me and I’m a fitness instructor.). I’m willing to participate in other studies.
I wanted to sign up for a couple in the last few years, filled out the forms, then got to the page that said privacy could not be guaranteed. I’m sure this is differs depending on the study
In the late 1980s I participated in a study at NIH regarding a drug that could address problems diabetics have with deterioration of capillaries in the eyes.
I participated more than 5 years ago, but not in the past 5 years. I have had multiple opportunities where I could participate remotely, however I am primary caregiver for an elderly relative that does not live in the same town, so my time and availability is very limited. Cost would be a concern as I am also retired. I missed the opportunity on many studies posted through T1D Exchange due to my inability to commit to a set date and time with care of my relative.
Most trials seem to take place in other countries. I’ve never had the opportunity to participate in one in Canada.
