  My T1D is service connected so I obtain all of my T1D supplies through the Veterans Administration medical services.

  My wife, now deceased, was also T1D. It made our lives somewhat easier because we shared the many aspects of T1D. Our children (mid 30s and early 40s, and neither T1D) accepted the issues we shared and were used to us taking bolus shots during meals at restaurants.

  My wife, now deceased, was also T1D. It made our lives somewhat easier because we shared the many aspects of T1D. Our children (mid 30s and early 40s, and neither T1D) accepted the issues we shared and were used to us taking bolus shots during meals at restaurants.

  I last had DKA when I was diagnosed with T1D in 1970. Today my CGM provides sufficient information to avoid DKA.

  When you got your T1D diagnosis, how many nights did you spend in the hospital?
  I was in the Air Force at the time of my diagnosis in 1970, staying with friends in San Diego, CA while on leave from my base in North Carolina. I lost consciousness due to Keto Acidosis and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where I stayed for 3 days if I remember correctly. Then, since I was active duty military I was moved to Balboa Naval hospital in San Diego. For unknown (by me) reasons I remained at Balboa Naval Hospital for about a month, with no active medical treatment other than the introduction of insulin and the beginning of self injections of NPH insulin. Ultimately I returned to my duty station in North Carolina and was processed for a medical discharge.

  The Omnipod 5 I am now using is the only pump I have used, after 50* years of MDI. The link between the Omnipod and my Dexcom G6 make my life so much easier and more controlled!

  I use Omnipod 5 and always have a back up supply, since they only last 3 days. If one failed I would simply switch to a new pod.

  What was your A1c at the time of your T1D diagnosis?
  I don't believes A1C was available when I was diagnosed in 1970. If I was told my Blood Glucose was over 600.

  In 2024, how often did you have a comprehensive eye exam (including dilation or retinal imaging) with an ophthalmologist or optometrist?
  I see an ophthalmologist once a year who conducts dilation and retinal imaging and biannually visual field exams. I also see an optometrist annually who checks my vision and provides prescription for lenses.

  I only use what is prescribed by my T1D care team. For many years it has been either Humalog or, currently Novolog

  Occasionally when applying my CGM I manage to wrinkle the adhesive material so that they don't achieve an effective seal. In those cases, only, I add an overlay patch to insure the CGM remains fixed for the full 10 period. I use an overlay patch with my Omnipod 5 under the same circumstances.

  One night due to severe episode of hypoclycemia , EMTs administered glucagon that I had available. It' was many years ago.

  Because the question dealt with long acting insulin and the possible answers included only fast acting insulin I opted for that answer. I use Omnipod 5, which utilizes only fast acting insulin, so I use no long acting insulin.
