Sarah Howard (nee Tackett) has dedicated her career to supporting the T1D community ever since she was diagnosed with T1D while in college in May 2013. Since then, she has worked for various diabetes organizations, focusing on research, advocacy, and community-building efforts for people with T1D and their loved ones. Sarah is currently the Senior Manager of Marketing at T1D Exchange.
When my husband passed away who was one of the longest living T1Ds in the country, memorials gifts to our church and the JDRF were listed and both were supported in that way. I have also given online for my son’s (T1D) wedding as a gift, and I did the online matching donation times 3 at the end of the past year. All went to JDRF.
I give to some causes monthly, some annually, and some on a single gift basis. The method of giving I use in each case depends on a combination of the nature of the need and my personal attachment to the ongoing work of the organization.
I give to some organizations. I prefer cash or check, or buying from a website that donates a portion of your purchase to the non-profit. I’ve learned that if giving through a” campaign “ about 10% is deducted and given to administrative costs to the campaign company.
