I would happily wear blue on World Diabetes Day, but am not sure about any of the other choices. I don’t mind talking about it if I’m asked, but don’t really force the topic if I’m not.
I will, usually, share my son’s story at some point during November. Most years, I share daily T1 facts from sources like Project Blue November on Facebook. Some things, I feel, are important to share like symptoms of undiagnosed T1, realities of living with T1, etc. Over the nearly 10 years since my son’s diagnosis, I have had numerous friends reach out to me, privately, to tell me that they appreciate my sharing those things because they didn’t know any of it. I think awareness of symptoms is extremely important in proper diagnosis of T1s. If this knowledge saves ONE person, then it was worth it to me to share.
I volunteer at a camp for diabetic children, speak on diabetes related topics, raise funds for JDRF (JDRF walk captain), and share information using social media. Have not participated in research but I am interesred.
I try to keep my family aware or new or ongoing with diabetes and the problems associated with the disease.
