No. I am a patient but also work as cde in the hospital and refer to inpatient social worker; have been able to help coordinate some outpatient services at outpatient diabetes appointments. However, although the office has looked into filling SW position they haven’t gone in that direction. Luckily the organization has greatly expanded mental health services in primary care practices.
In a larger healthcare provider such as Kaiser-Permanente, such mental health providers are readily available to diabetic patients, but they’re not housed within the endocrinology department.
Sort-of. There is no psychologist (Dr or other professional) as part of the Diabetes team, but the DSN monitors mental health, and can refer to the Mental Health department (just as they refer to Nephrology, Opthalmology, Neurology, etc for other conditions associated with diabetes, and Occupational Health, Dieticians, etc for support. Would it be better if specialists we embedded? I think for psychology and dieticians, it would be – diabetic mental health is (for example) a very specialist field, as specialist as gambling addiction. The downside of embedded was is that specialists also need the support structures of their own speciality Not just for vital professional supervision and support, but also for the “quick chats” and team teaching that will enable a specialist working with a type 1 patient with issues that are seemingly unrelated to type 1.
I am sure my regular health practitioner has mental health taken care of at their clinic bay t the specialty clinic I attend to see my visiting endocrinologist does not have a mental health person that I know of. I am sure there is someone here who handles mental health and either of my doctors would steer me to them if I showed need of help.
My diabetes clinic is part of a large university hospital with a few mental health clinics. I do not know if the diabetes clinic itself has a mental health provider.
Unfortunately not but would be a great addition to any endocrinologist office or clinic.

They used to but I think they had to phase out that program.
