  If they can transplant them such that we do not need immunosuppresants, we'd be fine. Otherwise, those meds are just one more thing that could become in short supply. But at least we could go through scanners at the airports and travel without huge bags of supplies.

  While those items are very much a concern, there are other factors that are more concerning ie immunosuppressant.

  Age 73 here. I'm in the same boat. I ogten am considered too old for consideration for "smaller" research projects. But - best of luck to them. I'll be rooting on the sidelines.

  I've tried twice and was rejected both times because I control my diabetes as best I can. As others have already stated, if immunosuppressing drugs are involved, count me out. I'm not interested in something worse than what I already have.

  I am hopeful- it may not be in my lifetime, but they have already made great strides in the research. The autoimmune response and need for immunosuppressants is still a pretty big sticking point.

  I don't see how a cure will be possible without islet cells as they are what produce insulin. Using immunosuppressants or not is what will determine what the first "cure" will be like. If safe immunosuppresants are used, then it is actually a "functional cure". If they can infuse islet cells without needing immunosuppressants nor other meds, then I would call it a "cure".

How often do you typically make updates to your basal rate (whether with your doctor’s guidance or on your own)?

If you have a menstrual cycle, do you notice changes in your insulin sensitivity throughout the month?

I am a senior with LADA, so I couldn’t relate to the 2 guys who are happy, fun presenters, and I listened to the young man who wrote the book Landmines. I learned as I listened, just not in the same age category. Plus those presenters had people who supported and lived with them, I am a widow which makes T1D more difficult living alone.

I am caring for a very elderly relative with cancer, so I don’t devote time to podcasts, live streaming meetings/conferences, etc. I had hoped after retiring 2 years ago, I would have time to participate more in research studies, discussion groups, etc., but being a caregiver must take priority first.
