over the past 70 yrs long acting has varied from AM to PM , equal split dose to unequal split dose . As each long acting has different start / peak / duration factors , thus the reason for my vague answer.
A missing an option here. I normally take my long-acting insulin at lunch, before meal. By that you get some support in handling the carb and protein from the lunch meal, as the long-acting insulin often has a bigger impact the first 8-10 hours after injection.
I try to always take the insulin close to a meal to get as much support as possible.
I usually do not take long acting insulin except for breaks from pump infusions. When off pump I usually take it at the start of my day in the morning.
I take Tresiba at supper. I used to take a split does at bedtime and when I woke up. It seemed supper/breakfast was a more even time split. My doctor said to try it. (It didn’t make much difference.) then I switched insulin to Tresiba and one injection per day. I
Just kept the suppertime dose.
Long time pumper here, but prior to pumping I split the dose. If I recall correctly it was 40% at 11:00 pm and 60% at 6:00 am
Before going on the pump years ago, I split my dose, so half in the morning and half at night

Was on MDI for three years. Now on tandem pump since March. Had to split dose of long acting. Only way it worked for me.
Used to split dose when on Lantus, but now on Tresiba which has a 48 hour duration, so once a day seems to do the trick

Anyone else start singing “When I wake up, well I know I’m gonna be…”?

I’ve taken Tresiba for several years and with its long duration need take it just once every 24 hours. I’ve gone with after dinner.
Split the dose for a bunch of years, but got no better results of any kind. Just more of the same… with an extra shot.
