I’m a teacher with type 1, and I have different basal rates set for school days and for off school days
This will be the first summer in which we are addressing this. He was diagnosed last September. With summer outings and sports, we will make adjustments as needed.
When I did have my T1D son living at home, he was in control of his pump independently. He was 13years at diagnosis, got his 1st pump at 14 years, and took ownership of his pump and his diabetes.
Sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes not so good with a teenage boy. But he has lived to be married and works a demanding job as a CPA in Chicago. There were 3 of us T1Ds under the same roof and we did this disease together. I miss the support each and every day now.
