  There is very little that is paper and therefore recyclable. I do recycle what I can. Wish it was different.

  Each airport is different. I’ve posted about this before but a Tampa TSA agent bullied me into going through the body scanner saying if I carried a cell phone, then I was exposing my pump to more X-rays than their machine. I was a newbie to pumping, I was alone, and no one was defending me although the other agents wouldn’t look at me. I now know cell phones are way different that imaging machines. That will NEVER happen again. I called TSA and they tried to tell me the same thing. I said: so you are telling me you know more about my medical device than my company? She said, well no but nothing has ever happened. I said: tell that to the young girl from Salt Lake City. This had just happened where her pump malfunctioned. The agent got quiet and said I had to do what I know best. So I ask for a public pat down now. They roll their eyes and say I have to wait for a female agent. One time I was so hassled that my normally low key husband came up and told them that this was enough and he wanted to talk to a supervisor. She said I caught them at a bad time between shifts. I now have pre TSA and I just got global entry. Hopefully PreTSA will continue to involve just the metal detector. Traveling next month. We shall see. What I don’t understand is why the pump companies are not advocating for us to ensure agents understand we cannot go through full body scanners. Or better yet, do the testing required to say it is OK or definitely not.

  I've only had 1 bad experience with TSA security. Sarasota TSA supervisor would not allow a manual patdown nor metal detector. Only option was to miss departing flight or go through body scanner. I now am enrolled in TSA PreCheck and have had good experiences with security checkpoints (especially DTW). Awareness of CGM and insulin pumps has helped a lot. TSA seems to have done more training of their officers too. I've used TSA Cares once with excellent results. In-flight is not a problem as I carry fruit gummies and allowable food, plus flights always have regular soft drinks.

  "Recycling" is a marketing term that doesn't really mean anything. It's like calling a product premium, artisinal, or luxury. I'm sure everyone has good intentions, but according to the EPA, only 5% of the plastic collected in the U.S. is actually recycled. What's the point.

  I would love to be able to recycle all of my pump packaging supplies, but can only recycle the paper. Not being able to recycle is one major bummer of pump therapy. I think that the companies should find ways to make the packaging compostable or recyclable as each site change produces a lot of waste!

  For Omnipod - In Canada Insulet has a recycling system- they send us a bag that we fill w used pods and ship back to them n/c For Dexcom G7 - I follow this video to deconstruct pretty easily to remove battery and needle then put plastic and metal into our recycling.   Yes, we recycle every little bit that is recyclable, but that is a habit, in our household, for all recyclables.

However, It is really annoying for the plastic pod inserters from the Dexcom G6 are so cumbersome to recycle. it would have been a good idea for Dexcom to design and produce a reloadable inserter to save on all the plastic that goes to God knows where as waste. As I have stated before in other comments ... what would happen if we all sent the tens of thousands, perhaps millions, of used inserter devices back to Dexcom en masse so they can dispose of them or recycle them into a better user and environmentally friendly device? I have several boxes of spent inserter devices taking up space and collecting dust in my garage.

  Me too - mis-dx'd with T2 cuz I was 30 years old and they were just changing the names. I went from 110 lbs working weight (professional ballet dancer, 5'6") to 100 lbs. Didn't know anything about D of any kind - didn't know anyone with any type of D and no family members with D (clue for the initial MD, ya think?!) I had had strep throat for about 2 weeks prior, so maybe that was a trigger. I remember the D symptoms getting worse, went back to the doctor, got scolded cuz I obviously wasn't doing my job (watching my weight and eating better) and so for punishment I was told "I'm gonna put you on the needle". I was Rx's 15 units of NpH once a day. After a month or so, found by a neighbor in a coma. While she was a gossip and rather ditzy, she was honest and so had a key. She had enough sense to grab her address book to call my day job to say I wasn't coming in. Lucky for me my day job was with a big city Fire Dept/EMS. They instructed her on a sternum rub, and told her to call 9-1-1. She thought I was too sick for 9-1-1. The Battalion Chief in charge of EMS was there, told her when you are too sick for 9-1-1, you call the coroner. They dispatched from HQ. Aside from the medical ramifications of mis-Dx there is also the scolding abuse. When I came out of the coma, during rounds the residents scolded me for not taking care of my D - assuming as many did, that I had had it since I was a child. The attending spoke up and said look at her chart. She was Dx'd in the Emergency Dept a week ago. Then went on to educate about the name changes for the types of D.

  Like Lawrence, I was sick with what I assumed was the flu about a week or so before the onset of symptoms (extreme thirst and peeing too often). This was in January/February 1976.

  Have you ever “microdosed” glucagon (given a small amount) when you’ve been sick to your stomach, had a stubborn low, or for another reason?
  I have had instances of blood sugar <40 and uncooperative with my wife. During those times she'll microdose the glucagon (once she gets me cooperative enough that she can). It works great. We even keep the leftover refrigerated and use it later with no problems. Sometimes when my glucose is low and continuing to fall she'll follow the first microdose with a second in about 15 minutes or so until my glucose is at a level where I will be more cooperative with eating/drinking. Once my glucose level gets high enough where I can take care of myself it's everything back to normal. I'm not a doctor so my advice is only what works for me. Consult with your doctor before doing what I'm doing.

  I did it once, the morning of surgery. I was supposed to be at 140 and I woke up to 59. I called Ask a Nurse but they said I should call my doctor, so I did at 5am. He said to go to the hospital immediately, but then my husband spoke up and suggested glucagon. The doctor said, yes that will work. I was exactly at 140 3 hours later for my surgery.
