  Coming from checking urine and then a prolong finger stuck checking along with NPH and regular, having the charts and graphs to show what is going on and any trends is very helpful

  Smart pen. If you're on MDI, it's sometimes invaluable to be able to check what dose you last gave and when, because it becomes so second nature that I sometimes forget

  It smells like insulin. I believe the smell comes from preservatives. It's smelled the same since NPH and Regular insulin.

  On the rare occasion that I spill or break a bottle; I can smell it. It smells like insulin without comparison to anything else.

  Insulin is much better. Insulin is rarely mentioned as a diabetes tech. Still, all these people running around talking about free insulin for all do not understand that insulin today is 10,000 times more advanced than when it was discovered. Yes, I celebrate banting, but let's not kid ourselves, basting did not discover this insulin - this insulin is the product of millions of dollars of research efforts.

  DIY apps Loop, Trio, LoopFollow, and Nightscout specifically and the AAPS forebears of them , as well as the all the developers and contributors to them. They gave me and many more the methods and willingness to continue!

  Not sure this is considered tech but tech helped create them: social media like podcasts, forums like this, YouTube videos. You go to an educator once and they show you stuff and you take notes but when you get home and are doing it on your own, you need a refresher. Social media helps.

  I have a Sugar Pixel by the side of my bed. I can look at it any time to see my blood sugar reading, along with the arrows and alerts.
