  Check my bg with a glucometer then give 1.5 times the amount of insulin it tells me to take. Check with a glucometer again in 1 hour and keep doing that until my bg comes down into normal range.

  I last had DKA when I was diagnosed with T1D in 1970. Today my CGM provides sufficient information to avoid DKA.

  DKA should never be an issue except during the initial diagnosis. Managing T1D takes care of that issue.

  Check my bg with a glucometer then give 1.5 times the amount of insulin it tells me to take. Check with a glucometer again in 1 hour and keep doing that until my bg comes down into normal range.

  I last had DKA when I was diagnosed with T1D in 1970. Today my CGM provides sufficient information to avoid DKA.

  I put all three, but TIR is probably the most important. But of course TIR can be 100% and your blood sugar average around 170 which is way too high for an average. That is why I believe a combination of of all are important including standard deviation.

  My feeling is that A1c is the most likely to reflect potential damage to the circulatory system which is the cause of many of the worst complications. It is too bad that the medical/pharmaceutical research community has not settled this question definitively, but of course since there would seem to be no immediate profit incentive to do so (and it wouldn't be cheap or easy), it probably never will be settled.

  Have you ever switched to a new insulin pump or CGM only to return to your previous version?
  I didn't change, but I was thinking of changing back to the Dexcom G6 from the G7 since G6 are going to eventually be discontinued. Once I learned some tricks to use the G7 more effectively, I am getting less problems with it.

  TIR is the most important of those listed. However, it takes 3 measures together to give the best indication of BG control. A1C is just an average, so extreme swings and more lows than highs can give a false, low A1C. However, A1C comes directly from blood draw so cannot be skewed by erroneous CGM readings, gaps in CGM data, etc. TIR is excellent tool for good control, but is heavily dependent on CGM accuracy. If using finger pricks, TIR is too dependent on T1D testing only when BG is likely to be good. The 3rd measure is StdDev (Standard Deviation) ..... how much your BG swings from the average. The lower, the better. StdDev+TIR+A1C are all important to me for measuring control.

  My last period was 30 years ago. I was 48 and had been diagnosed as a T1D 3 years before that and some kind of diabetic 8 years before menopause. Those years I had 3 different doctors trying to figure out what was going on.

  I’ve found it best not to over-adjust the carb ratio. I do, however, frequently check my correction factor.
