  This is one of the toughest questions you've asked. I really do try to avoid candy. But, being human, I sometimes have some. I have celiac disease, so that cuts out a lot of choices. But, my preferences are for nuts ( I eat nuts everyday; walnuts, pecans, cashews, mixed deluxe, mostly fats). I also eat Cracker Jack/Jills 29carbs, minus 2 fibers=27 carbs per bag. I also enjoy dried fruit; dried pineapple, medjool dates, golden figs, carbs vary, but they are very high.

  I do love a good, tart lemon drop! They were my "glucose tablets" as a kid. When I was a kid, I didn't like anything chocolate, but my tune has definitely changed! Chocolate and nuts or peanut butter are a favorite. It depends on the item, but anywhere from 5 to 18 carbs per... poor little bolus deliverer goes a bit crazy! ;p

  If you do something that has a risk and a cost of which you are aware, it's not cheating . It's a choice about your life, that you have a right to make. Cheating is when you expect others to pay for the consequences of your actions.

  My first 20 years of T1 D were under the old R/NPH "Thou shalt NOT!" rules. When I finally got switched to Lantus/Novolog with carb counting, the slogan "You can eat what you want, just bolus for it!" was starting to become the norm, but it always seemed alien to me. "The less insulin you have to take, the easier it is to manage," was more my style and has served me pretty well. I do occasionally indulge in a slice of cake or the like on special occasions, but I think I'm too deeply indoctrinated in the old attitude for the idea of having a "favorite candy" to seem anything but alien to me.
