  I was Dx'ed at age 18 months. My earliest recollection of a low was age 4 or 5, I would say I felt woozy. The preferred treatment then was a spoon full of honey. To this day, I consider honey to be medicine.

  You need to be a little more specific on what you mean by "a young age". I was almost 24 when I was diagnosed, and yes, I did feel my lows right away

  Does this give you success? I dins my own body (insulin absorption, mental attitude, fatigue, etc.) all have a tremendous effect and are far more variable than my food intake.

  If a label is available then great, I use that. However I find the bigger unknown is my insulin to carb ratio for that day and time of day. So I bolus on the low side and give a top up bolus later on if need be.

  When I was first diagnosed in 1968, food did not have nutrition labels. Based on American Diabetes Association equivalents for “1 starch” and “1 fruit” I learned basic calculations for carbs. A US Dept of Agriculture booklet with nutrition info for just about every food on the planet helped me refine my calculations, which are still useful when eating foods that don’t have a nutrition label.

  Yes I do, for 2.5 to 3 years now. She is much better at alerting me for lows than either my G6 was or my G7 is. She's about 10 min. earlier than Dexcom. She is dual trined trained as both a D.A.D. and a stability - mobility service dog. She's the reason I can safely and confidently go out on hiking trails by myself. I must add though, D.A.D. are not for everyone! We continually train so that neither of us forget the commands; she is like an extension of me with the bond that has formed between us.

  How can there be 7 or more nights in the last week? I assume you meant that to ask how many times have you been disrupted at night, not how many nights . There are times when you need a good proofreader on your team.

  This is a far more complicated question than just count carbs. From my medical and biochemistry back round I can say this, some of the many factors contributing to bolus size are; carbs, insulin sensitivity that day, bolus timing, stress, circulating insulin effecting blood glucagon levels, glycogen storage, incretin production, alpha cell function............and many more factors. So I think your best estimate and pre-bolusing (rapid insulin peaks in ~90 minutes) to match food absorption is currently the way to go.
