  At 78 I don't think islet transplantation will affect my life course. Big pharma sees biological treatments as the path to ever higher profits, not constrained by patent terms the way drugs are. Most diabetics would be better served by an improved standard of care from the ADA and the medical community.

  Severe case of hardening of the “oughteries” here. Ought we be concerned with cost, insurance, coverage, hail storms, earthquakes? ▄█▀█● Why are we not homeschooled to enjoy the progress being made?

  If they can transplant them such that we do not need immunosuppresants, we'd be fine. Otherwise, those meds are just one more thing that could become in short supply. But at least we could go through scanners at the airports and travel without huge bags of supplies.

  General access to islet transplants is still years away. FDA has to deem it safe. Though, I am excited about the possibility.

  Age 73 here. I'm in the same boat. I ogten am considered too old for consideration for "smaller" research projects. But - best of luck to them. I'll be rooting on the sidelines.

  I've tried twice and was rejected both times because I control my diabetes as best I can. As others have already stated, if immunosuppressing drugs are involved, count me out. I'm not interested in something worse than what I already have.

  I answered “Very Unlikely” not because I woud not want to participate but because, at age 75, I think it very unlikely that any researcher would want me in their patient panel.
