  I think the question was worded poorly. I said 1 because I am the only one -- and I am in "my family." But there is no way 37% of the respondents on this site have nobody "in their family" with diabetes, not even themselves.

  I was diagnosed in 1975, started on a pump in 1997. I don’t know how much sooner I could have started, unless I used one of those backpack-sized prototypes in the 1980s.

  It would be helpful if you put out some general demographic info about the people who are on this list. For example, this response may be effected by older people like me who had diabetes before pumps were develop. if you asked only people under 30 yrs then you'd get a completely different answer. It's like asking at what age did you get a cell phone. They like pumps didn't exist for about 50 years of my life LOL.

  Dx in '65, started with a Medtronic 504 in '88, still using a 523 with Loop.

  Dx in 1955, first pump was an Animas Vibe in 2017, 62 years later.

  It was 20 years later in 2001. I got it in 1998 or 1999 but it took a few years to really get comfortable with the idea of becoming a cyborg. It was a good run for 17 years, but the constant supply of insulin caused me to gain 100+ lbs. Switched back to MDI and likely will never go back.

  24 Years! And it’s been a game changer! Dx 1988, Pumping since 2007, added CGM 2012

  I was diagnosed in 1983 so it wasn’t available. But I love having one now. Wish it was available 40 years ago.

  No insulin pumps or even blood glucose test kits available when I got diagnosed. I was urinating on a litmus strip and trying to match the color to see where I was; ugh!, we have come a long way, still not to a cure yet, but progress has been made. Let's keep going.
