Position: DevOps Engineer
Classification: Full-time (40 hours per week)
Location: Preferred Tampa/St. Petersburg

T1D Exchange, the first program of the nonprofit organization Unitio, Inc., seeks a DevOps Engineer.

The T1D Exchange program was designed to accelerate all stages of research development and translation while advocating for individuals affected by type 1 diabetes. T1D Exchange consists of an online patient community (MyGlu.org), a Clinic Registry, a Clinic Network, and a Biobank. Members collaborate with our organization to accelerate the development of patient products and services, and receive a series of membership deliverables, including the annual state of diabetes report, complimentary registration at our annual meeting, and corporate branding and exposure at T1D Exchange/Glu events.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Product teams to identify and implement solutions that meet production, QA, development, and administrative needs in Linux-based environments
  • Architect, build and maintain multi-site, high-availability solutions
  • Own and suggest improvements to our deployment process and tools
  • Diagnose and resolve production system issues
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule

Successful applicant must be:

  • A self-starter who is willing to take a task from gathering requirements to deployment and maintenance
  • Able to work effectively and be pragmatic as part of a remote team in a dynamic business environment
  • Comfortable working independently and able to escalate problems when necessary
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Eager to learn; able to understand and apply new things relatively quickly
  • Willing to mentor and guide fellow team members kindly and constructively
  • Willing to work for eight solid hours per day where at least five overlap with 8am to 5pm EST
  • Available to work off-hours as necessary
  • Happy to travel occasionally for team meetings and events

Your experience should demonstrate that you:

  • Have experience with Ubuntu and Red Hat/CentOS in production environments
  • Are proficient with configuration management tools (Ansible preferred)
  • Enjoy automating repetitive tasks with the language of your choice (Ruby preferred)
  • Can effectively use git and understand common SCM workflows
  • Are able to find solutions to technical puzzles with atypical constraints
  • Can manage and support production environments in the cloud (AWS)
  • Can implement and manage high-availability infrastructure solutions with automatic failover
  • Managed MySQL and PostgreSQL in production environments
  • Enjoy sharing knowledge via documentation
  • Are knowledgeable of best practices, but open to introducing reasonable technical debt when necessary in order to meet business needs
  • Are able to write code that is intentional and readable rather than magically obscure
  • Stay on top of current DevOps and infrastructure news
  • Enjoy tinkering

It would really be outstanding if you:

  • Were located in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area
  • Have experience deploying Rails applications
  • Are familiar with HIPAA and HITECH
  • Can comfortably use advanced git features such as rebase, rebase -i, merge –no-ff

Position: Accounting Manager

Our team is growing, and T1D Exchange is seeking a hands-on, experienced Accounting Manager to report to the CFO. This is a unique opportunity for a process-oriented, self-starter who is comfortable working in a rapidly changing, start-up environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Own day-to-day accounting operations with the ability to execute more complex functions such as classification and release of donor and grant restrictions. As well as valuation of privately held securities and NPV of multiyear grants.
  • Apply accounting principles and processes, analyze financial information, and manage the monthly close process as it pertains to the company’s growing operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Business; post-graduate education preferred.
  • At least seven years relevant experience; experience with nonprofit GAAP and supervising growing accounting teams strongly preferred.
  • A high level of skill working with multiple stakeholders regarding input on content creation.
  • Effective organizational, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proven customer service skills are a must.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Comfort level with the creation of easy to understand reports for non-financial readers and a strong appreciation of the utility of timely financial reporting.
  • A positive attitude and an excitement for working in teams is also a plus.
  • Additional consideration will be given for candidates with knowledge and/or experience with type 1 diabetes.

Position: Clinical Research Manager

We have developed a new patient-centered model that accelerates progress, connects key stakeholders, and links patient insight to all stages of research, development and delivery of T1D solutions. Our team is growing, and T1D Exchange is seeking a motivated Clinical Research Manager for immediate full-time employment. The Clinical Research Manager will work with the Biobank Director to design, implement, and expand the Living Biobank—a study focused on T1D patients agreeing to share their health information and be contacted for biospecimen donation when they “match” requirements for a specific sub-study.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop the study protocol and related materials to secure IRB approval.
  • Assist in developing the implementation plan, supporting infrastructure, and study workflows.
  • Following the launch of the study, s/he will be responsible for daily study management, including study enrollments and participant communications, data collection and quality control, protocol compliance, and study staff oversight.
  • Provide ongoing education about the Living Biobank to the T1D community, including patients, family members, and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with the Biobank team, principal investigators, and vendors on fulfilling specimen and data collection requirements for specific projects.

We seek an individual with strong interpersonal skills and previous personnel management experience. An ideal candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team within a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in health science, public health, epidemiology, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of project management experience in a public health, community health, or clinical research setting
  • Prior supervisory experience in clinical research is required
  • Advanced knowledge of clinical research best practices and regulations for human subjects protections
  • Strong planning, organization and time management skills are necessary
  • Proven critical reasoning skills, including the ability to identify and resolve complex problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential

Additional Qualifications:

  • Confidence and experience in interacting with scientific experts
  • Experience with developing SOPs is a plus.

Position: Program Coordinator
Classification: Full-time (40 hours per week)

We have developed a new patient-centered model that accelerates progress, connects key stakeholders, and links patient insight to all stages of research, development and delivery of T1D solutions. T1D Exchange is a proven leader in advancing drugs and devices to market more efficiently, and facilitates interactions between patients, clinicians, researchers, and industry.

T1D Exchange is growing and we are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Program Coordinator to join our team of individuals working on a quality care and clinical innovation program. The core of this program is a quality improvement “learning collaborative” made up of 10 clinical sites caring for people with T1D. The goal is to track the quality improvement projects and measure outcomes to see if care has improved.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and project management skills, in addition to the desire to be a part of a project that works to improve the care of type 1 diabetes patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides staff support to leadership meetings, such as the Advisory Board and Faculty Leaders. Gives ad hoc support to other committees as requested
  • Establishes strong working relationships with site coordinators and their teams to best utilize their shared common knowledge
  • Manages logistics and creates materials for monthly collaborative calls and semi-annual in-person learning sessions
  • Assists the Quality Improvement Team, faculty leaders and team with tracking the progress of each site and overall collaboration efforts
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned by the Director of Quality Improvement
  • Travel to clinic sites within the United States on occasion.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline with 1+ year of experience providing program coordination
  • Knowledge of web-based tools for data sharing (i.e., Trello, Dropbox, or Box)
  • Experience with a quality improvement collaborative and familiarity with HIPAA compliance requirements preferred.

  • A customer-service orientation, with highly professional verbal and written communication skills

Position: Director, Patient Centered Research

We have developed a new patient-centered model that accelerates progress, connects key stakeholders, and links patient insight to all stages of research, development and delivery of T1D solutions. T1D Exchange is a proven leader in advancing drugs and devices to market more efficiently, and facilitates interactions between patients, clinicians, researchers, and industry.

Patient-centered research plays a critical role in the evolving healthcare space by prioritizing the including patient voice in the research and development process, and supporting creation of new products and integrated care programs that focus on health outcomes and patient/clinician satisfaction.

The T1D Exchange Patient Centered Research Initiative (PCRI) is primarily designed to understand the needs of people affected by T1D, burden of managing the disease and impact to health outcomes.  A second aim of the initiative is to identify affected populations and engage them in research activities, studies and projects to advance quality care and accelerate transformative therapies.

Our PCRI will leverage existing T1D Exchange resources and support the development of synergistic strategic initiatives including Improving Quality Care, Collaborative Science, and sponsored research.

  • Patient-Centered Research: develop and maintain PCRI strategic priorities, research strategy and oversee operations for studies, patient insight and research projects.  Direct and coordinate required content to support successful research objectives and cohort development, engagement and maintenance.
  • Improving Quality Care (improving patient care in the clinic): support, when applicable, the developing QI initiative: supporting patient input, insight and engagement in the design, testing and launch of QI deliverables.
  • Collaborative Science: support, when applicable, Living Biobank recruitment and feedback from collection SOPs. Leverage patient community interest as an internal reviewer of potential sample analysis projects.
  • Sponsored research: work with strategic and corporate development to screen and develop external partner and member sponsored research.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Patient Centered Research to lead this strategy and operationalize the T1D Exchange PCRI while acting as an advisor and subject matter expert on engagement.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the research team of Research Managers, Biostatisticians, and develop content to support research objectives aligned with mission and vision including sustainability
  • Oversee and monitor operations of research projects, studies and initiatives necessary to achieve the strategic goals and priorities of the T1D Exchange Patient Centered Initiative.; with the goal of affecting change in patient care and/or accelerating product development
  • Cultivate, support and enhance collaborative relationships with internal and external researchers, sponsors and research institutions
  • Seek new and innovative approaches to conduct patient centered research by leveraging patient and caregiver cohorts. Identify opportunities to further develop cohorts based on research need.
  • Oversee programmatic planning, working in tandem with BD and Advancement, identify strategic funding sources and work through the budgeting process to align resources with research opportunities. Where appropriate contribute to and/or lead federal grant submissions
  • Prepare publications and deliver presentations to ensure dissemination of findings through abstracts, manuscripts and collateral development. Where applicable leverage these publications and seek opportunities to deliver presentations in support of T1D Exchange Advancement efforts.
  • Provide input on patient engagement platform product development.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Health Science, Public Health, Heath Outcome Research or related field with 7-10+ years overall related experience,  3-5 in a leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of patient centered research, analysis and protocol development, epidemiology and biostatistical analysis
  • Knowledge of and proven experience in in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in survey sciences
  • Ability to develop and manage advisory committees and working groups
  • Strong writing capabilities, organizational skills and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Qualifications:

  • Excellent problem solving, and communications skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of T1D Exchange colleagues, donors, physicians, corporate leaders, civic and community leaders and other professionals
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, especially in clinical research and product development
  • Knowledge of grant and contract application and award processes, regulations and regulatory process required to conduct human subject research
  • Ability to understand strategic client issues, assess the feasibility of solutions and manage client expectations independently
  • A research background that includes: quality of life, and health outcomes
  • A documented track record of publications in the area of patient centered research and abstract development
